What is khadi fabric?
Khadi is a traditional fabric made from hand-spun yarn using a spinning wheel called a charkha, and it is also known as Khaddar. Typically woven by hand from cotton, silk, or wool, Khadi is produced across various states in India, each contributing its unique touch to the fabric.
The process begins with converting fibers into yarn using the charkha. This yarn is then woven into fabric using looms. The production involves several additional steps, including dyeing and strengthening. Traditionally, Khadi was crafted entirely by hand, relying minimally on natural resources or energy. However, modern manufacturing has introduced mechanization to streamline the process.
